Motorsport Ireland launched its first ever Try Motorsport day on the 1st of March in Mondello Park. The day, which was open to motorsport enthusiasts from a number of different motorsport disciplines, and those hoping to start competing in one, was a great success. The idea of the day was to give people from different branches of the sport who might be considering a change, and those who might be considering taking up motorsport, a taste of what it is like to compete on a racing circuit. The day consisted of an introductory presentation by motorsport officials of track racing, safety etc. After that those attending were taken down to the pits where they could be taken for a few laps of the track at competition speed to experience the thrill of circuit racing close up. All the competitors taking them around were experienced racing drivers and the variety of cars ranged for Fiat Uno’s and Punto’s right up to Porsche. There were even a few open Strykers available to give those lucky enough to get a spin in one a taste of open top racing. In between these sessions there was a range of single seater racing cars going around the track giving a demonstration of single seater racing. Overall the day was a great success, the sun shone and there was a good
attendance to experience the atmosphere of Mondello Park on a race day. If anyone wants to find out more about competing in any of the classes please contact Motorsport Ireland to get details of the classes and the relevant contact details. |
